Pilates
Pilates tones the torso like no other exercise method. It uses precise mat exercises designed to engage the often neglected deep core muscles while developing flexibility, coordination and body awareness. Pilates training leads to improved posture that makes a difference in all our daily actions as well as other physical activities. Pilates at Advance offers an excellent opportunity for quick progress due to the small number of participants (maximum 5 students per class). The instructors are adept at modifying the exercises to fit the ability level of all participants.

Pilates Essential A great starting point for beginners, the Essential Mat-Work class teaches the five basic principles of the STOTT PILATES method, and builds a foundation of exercises required to move on to the next level. This mat-based workout is designed to help participants develop leaner, longer-looking muscles, establish core strength and stability and heighten mind-body awareness. Additional benefits may be an overall improvement in postural problems and a decrease in back pain. Props may be incorporated to add variety.
Pilates Improvers This level is for those who have taken the Essential Mat-Work program. We will challenge the participant by adding endurance and increased pace to the classes. Pilates resistance equipment and preparation for some Intermediate exercises will be incorporated. Pre-requisite is Essential Mat-Work plus instructor approval.
Pilates Intermediate The Intermediate Level builds a broader foundation of exercises and will take the participant through a dynamic, full-body workout. The student will continue to improve flexibility and core strength while incorporating more coordination and intensity to their workouts. Programming will intensify in pace and will vary from session to session. Furthermore, the matwork classes will include some props to increase the challenge. Prerequisite is Pilates Improvers plus instructor approval.

This initial experience introduced her to yoga's capacity to promote heath and wellness within people of all ages and abilities. Her continued studies grew into a love for yoga and she subsequently entered the teacher training program at Bodhi Tree Yoga here in Regina. Presently continuing her yoga studies and teacher training, Robin has a keen interest in using yoga as a therapeutic tool to assist students in overcoming their physical challenges and improving their quality of life.
Robin's classes focus on building stamina, flexibility, balance, awareness and posture with the intent of improving one's well being and general quality of life. The style of yoga Robin teaches is based on Iyengar, a highly verbal and articulate form of Hatha Yoga which is known for its attention to detail and precise alignment. The objective of the class is to open up each individual's areas of tightness and lessen any muscular and joint challenges that may be present. Props are used to help the yoga postures fit your body and as this class is limited to just 5 participants, extra individual instruction is offered, allowing for significant progress and enhanced comprehension.

Infant Massage
Infant Massage is led by Certified Infant Massage Instructor Erin Butler-Marshall RMT, a graduate of the International Association of Infant Massage training program. Through a series of five classes, babies and parents come together in a small group setting to learn a full body baby massage. Traditional Swedish and Indian massage techniques are combined with yoga and reflexology principles to create a routine that benefits infants by encouraging relaxation and relief from various conditions. The classes are a blend of informative instruction, hands on massage practice and discussions.
Infants communicate through their bodies. When you engage an infant in massage, you begin to listen. You listen to sounds, you watch movements, you listen with your eyes, your ears, and your heart. Infant massage is essentially touch communication and it nurtures the most important relationship a child will ever have: the relationship between parent and infant.
The focus of infant massage is not solely on the baby, but the reciprocal interaction between infant and parent. The program assists parents to better understand and enjoy the individuality of their infant while enhancing the bonding process. This positive parenting practice ripples out to all of baby's future relationships.
Infant Massage is held once a week for five weeks and is geared towards babies aged 0 to 12 months. Please call the clinic at 586-4552 to register. For more information on the program, please ask for Erin.
