Special Massage Therapy Treatments

Infant Massage

Infant Massage is led by Certified Infant Massage Instructor Erin Butler-Marshall RMT, a graduate of the International Association of Infant Massage training program. Through a series of five classes, babies and parents come together in a small group setting to learn a full body baby massage. Traditional Swedish and Indian massage techniques are combined with yoga and reflexology principles to create a routine that benefits infants by encouraging relaxation and relief from various conditions. The classes are a blend of informative instruction, hands on massage practice and discussions.

Infants communicate through their bodies. When you engage an infant in massage, you begin to listen. You listen to sounds, you watch movements, you listen with your eyes, your ears and your heart. Infant massage is essentially touch communication and it nurtures the most important relationship a child will ever have: the relationship between parent and infant.

The focus of infant massage is not solely on the baby, but the reciprocal interaction between and parent. The program assists parents to better understand and enjoy the individuality of their infant while enhancing the bonding process. This positive parenting practice ripples out to all of baby's future relationships.

Infant Massage is held once a week for five weeks and is geared towards babies aged 0 to 12 months
Next session begins January 2011
Cost: $120 (gst included)

For more information and to register, please call the clinic at 586-4552.

All required materials are supplied and participants are encouraged to attend all 5 sessions. Gift Certificates are available for the Infant Massage course and make a perfect gift for a baby shower.

Note: The course is very baby oriented so there is no need to worry if it is nap time, feeding time or fussy time. The emphasis is for parents to tend to the immediate needs of their baby and know that there will be lots of time to review the techniques.

Hot Stone Massage

Based on ancient eastern models of healing therapies, our style of Hot Stone Massage has been refined to incorporate current scientific understanding of the body. The Natural Basalt Lava Stones that are used have been smoothly polished to give the feeling of silk to your skin. The stones are placed in water and heated to varying degrees of warmth, then incorporated into a soothing massage technique that uses the warm stones as an extension of the therapist's hands. Because heat has an amazing ability to release tension and relax muscles, Hot Stone Massage is the ultimate in stress relief. This therapy is also extremely effective in resolving many chronic conditions by blending traditional hydrotherapy benefits with Myofascial Release techniques and therapeutic massage to provide lasting results.

Chi Nei Tsang ("chee nayt song")
Of ancient Chinese origin, Chi Nei Tsang is a holistic approach to massage therapy with the goal of integrating one's physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects. Chi Nei Tsang literally means 'working the energy of the internal organs' and uses principles of Tai-Chi and Chi-Kung. Certified therapists work mainly on the abdomen with deep, soft and gentle strokes to train the internal organs to work more efficiently. Effective for detoxification, elimination, tension reduction and immune system strengthening. (Choose from 3/4 hour or 1 hour treatment) Therapist: JoAnne Hartney

Thai Massage
Thai Massage is an ancient holistic therapy that uses flowing motions to open, energize and balance your being. The receiver of the massage remains completely clothed and receives the treatment lying on a cushioned mat on the floor. Tension is released by the therapist using their carefully controlled body weight to apply pressure into the tissue through their thumbs, palms, knees and feet. The treatment consists of a gently rocking rhythmic movement incorporating a combination of compression, acupressure, mobilizations and muscle stretching. In this way energy flow along the sen meridian lines is stimulated, revitalizing tissues, joints and organs. Through Thai Massage muscles become elongated, joint range of motion is improved, thus tight areas are opened up, leaving the participant with increased vitality while deeply relaxing the body and mind. (Choose from  1 hour, 1 1/4 hour, 1 1/2 hour or 2 hour treatment)  Therapist: Dianne Fraser
